The 108 Heroes of Water Margin

Water Margin gathers 108 heroes at Liangshan Marsh: 36 Heavenly Spirits and 72 Earthly Fiends, each with a star, a nickname and a story. Here you can read who they were in the novel. In Outlaw Mahjong they are painted on flower tiles: you recruit them one run at a time, and every hero who joins your flower rack is collected into your codex. What each of them does on the rack is yours to find out in the game.

Before the 108梁山前任首领

Chao Gai died before the 108 assembled and has no star or numbered seat. His story stands separately here.

Heavenly Spirits天罡星

The 36 Tiangang stars, seats 1 to 36 on the stone tablet: the chiefs and great champions of Liangshan.

Earthly Fiends地煞星

The 72 Disha stars, seats 37 to 108: the captains, craftsmen, spies and innkeepers who keep the stronghold running.

Heavenly Spirits and Earthly Fiends

The novel opens with an official releasing 108 demonic stars trapped under a stone tablet. They are reborn as the outlaws of Liangshan, and when the band is complete a stone tablet falls from heaven listing every hero in order: the 36 Tiangang (Heavenly Spirit) stars first, then the 72 Disha (Earthly Fiend) stars. Each hero page shows that star and seat, and this page lists the heroes in the same order.
