Yu Baosi

郁保四·险道神 · Road-Clearing God

Yu Baosi in Water Margin. The giant horse thief Road-Clearing God, sent as Zeng's envoy, who turns and helps Liangshan break the Zeng fortress.

In the Water Margin

Yu Baosi is a giant of a man, said to stand ten feet tall, and is called Road-Clearing God after the huge paper figure that leads a funeral procession. When the horse dealer Duan Jingzhu buys fine horses in the north as a gift for Song Jiang, Yu Baosi and his band of some two hundred seize them on the road and hand them all over to the Zeng family fortress.

During Liangshan's second assault on the Zeng fortress, the Zengs send Yu Baosi to Song Jiang's camp to negotiate. Wu Yong wins him over, and he returns as a secret ally, steering the Zeng commanders into a night raid on an empty camp that leads to their defeat and the capture of Shi Wengong. On Liangshan he bears the commander's banner, and takes seat one hundred and five beneath the Dijian star.
