In the Water Margin
Jiao Ting comes from Zhongshan Prefecture, from a family that has wrestled for a living for three generations, passing the art only from father to son. Nowhere he goes will anyone take him in, so all through Shandong and Hebei he is called Faceless. On the road Li Kui, who has slipped away from Liangshan to join the march on Lingzhou, picks a fight with him and is thrown to the ground twice.
Learning who Li Kui is, Jiao Ting tells him he was on his way to Withered Tree Mountain to join its chief Bao Xu. The two go up together, win Bao Xu over, and the three attack Lingzhou from behind while its commanders are in the field against Guan Sheng. Jiao Ting then comes to Liangshan and takes seat ninety-eight beneath the Di'e star.
